Also known as biological engineering, engineered biological systems or biotechnological engineering, bioengineering is focused on the study of the problems of organisms alive. It can be said that this specialty establishes a bridge between engineering (the science whose knowledge and techniques make it possible to take advantage of the resources of nature) and biology (which is oriented to the composition, functioning, development and links of living beings).
While biology studies systems on the smallest scale, engineering is linked to more classical design and constructionism. Among the different branches of bioengineering it is possible to mention genetic engineering (which manipulates the genome of a living being), bioprocess engineering (develops processes that allow the production of remedies, food, etc.) and biomedical engineering (oriented towards medicine).
Currently the subject of bioengineering is part of several university degrees, such as Aerospace Engineering, for example. The objective of this subject is for the student to achieve the following goals:
-To promote both the entrepreneurial spirit and human rights.
-Have the knowledge and skills necessary to analyze and assess the function and impact of the different technical solutions.
-Have theoretical information and practical capacity in areas such as information and communication technologies in biomedicine, biological control systems, bioelectronics and biomechanics.
It is interesting to establish that Barcelona, in 2017, became a pioneer in Spain by introducing a degree in Bioengineering, which included mentions of the locomotor system and dental prostheses and orthoses. Degree that allows you to obtain an academic training in a sector in constant evolution.
